Are you planning on coming and discovering Shawi solo? It’s always a pleasure to share my local favorites! If you meet me, don’t hesitate to come and talk to me.
First evening in Shawi, we try the flavors of the world! At the Taj Mahal restaurant, I recommend the butter chicken, the soft Naan bread and the Tika paneer (grilled cheese served on a hot cast iron plate). It’s my comfort food that warms my heart and soul. You can also ask for takeaway, if you prefer!
The next morning, head to Le Grille-Pain du Coin bakery located in the Shawinigan-Sud sector. The almond croissant is just decadent! And my little sweet tooth was conquered by the Fôret-Noire coffee. In addition, I love the local and organic products.
Then I suggest the Parc de l’Ile Melville (secteur des chutes) to enjoy nature! It’s my getaway space in any season, 5 minutes from my house! It is possible to go fatbiking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The scenery is beautiful and the trails are super well maintained.
Saturday evening, head to the Chenapan restaurant. The service is always impeccable, the food is just perfect and the cocktails of the moment are always satisfying! I recommend the beef tartare, the cheese fondue, and the mac n cheese with EXTRA lacquered bacon! Yum!
Sunday morning, stop at the Shawinigan Public Market. This is the perfect place to find everything for a quick lunch! My favorite snacks are homemade crisps and cheese from Yvan du Fromage. For a healthy and delicious meal, I opt for the Poke Bowl from Kokomi!
To end your outdoor winter stay in Shawi, I suggest you go to Vallée Rocanigan. The place offers great trails for snowshoeing, a yurt to warm up by the wood stove and hot chocolates are offered!
