I love receiving my friends in Shawinigan and make them discover the treasures of my city. It’s fun to be able to get away from everyday life during a weekend! Fall is my favorite season for its vibrant colors, its smell and its cooler temperature which allows you to enjoy nature comfortably and have comforting meals in great restaurants.
Friday evening, a trip to the Trou du diable Pub is a must. Order a microbrewery beer accompanied by a plate of salty cheese, olives and jerky. In terms of beer, I recommend the famous Kryptonite, the delicious Shawi Beach or the à la carte ciders for those who prefer a sweeter taste.
Saturday morning, hop in the car to discover the country roads leading to the Sainte-Flore sector. Once you arrive there, I highly recommend you have breakfast or lunch at the unmissable Café Bucolique. The atmosphere will take you back to the beginning of the 20th century, in a décor of tastefully arranged antiques. The warm welcome and the original lunches will please everyone.
Head to Vallée-du-Parc for a short mountain hike that will reward you with a magnificent view. The flamboyant colors are beautiful from up there!
After the hike, an aperitif is highly deserved! Enjoy the local cheese and products you bought earlier, accompanied by a good bottle of wine from 462 Tamarac. Your next destination will be the magnificent Maison de la culture Francis-Brisson where the warm atmosphere unites with the incredible acoustics of this performance hall. A nice glass of wine in hand, let yourself be carried away by culture.
Sunday, last morning of this friend’s trip, head to the Resto-Lounge Le Radoteux for a gourmet brunch. There, you can have acai bowl, benedictine eggs, reunionese casserole or breton crêpes. For drinks, choose a good coffee from the Brûlerie du Saint-Maurice or even, a little mimosa to celebrate… friendship!
For this last activity of the weekend, I suggest the Ranch Dupont. You can meet the passionate owners who will tell you all about the reasons and objectives of the creation of this place! Then, go for a short walk on the enchanting site to meet the endangered species which are treated with respect and love.
