Are you coming to Shawi with your family this fall? You’re in luck, our beautiful city is full of activities for you: shows, walks, cultural centers, local shops… Here are my suggestions to make the most of a weekend in Shawi!
Why not start the weekend by going to see a show with the family? The Centre des arts de Shawinigan plans, each year, a beautiful and varied program including comedy, singing, dance, classical music and theater shows. Be sure to arrive earlier to visit the exhibitions at the Centre Léo-Ayotte!
Every fall, I love to go and stock up on books at the Poirier bookstore. Whether it’s for the kids or for me, the friendly team of booksellers always gives excellent advice. You can also continue window shopping and check out the other shops on the main road!
Grab a winter hat and a warm sweater and head to the Parc de l’Ile Melville for a walk in the Parc des Chutes sector. It’s a great place to admire nature during fall, and why not stop there to read a book.
After a good walk, I suggest you stop at the Espace Culturel Onikam in downtown Shawinigan, where you’ll learn about the culture and arts of the First Nations. Why not buy the kids a first nation souvenir, or a dream catcher production kit at the boutique!
Saturday evening, head to Place Biermans for some family time! The most difficult part of the evening will probably be to agree on the film to watch at the movie theatre… After that, play a game of bowling and satisfy your sweet tooth at the Chocolato dairy bar. A pleasure for kids and adults alike!
You absolutely have to pick up almond croissants and chocolatines for Sunday breakfast at Pâtisserie Le Palais… Don’t forget to try the best hot chocolate in town! (it is made with REAL chocolate!)
Visit the Ranch Dupont, the kids love it! Did you know there are 250 animals from all over the world there? The animals are even more present during fall when it is cooler, and you can take the time to read the explanatory plaques for each species.
